Description:

Effective with unit number 52541, MCI has made design changes to the main heater water control valve harness installation. This new design will reduce any incorrect readings on the temperature control module, which can be caused by an improper ground connection to the main heater water control valve.

Service Procedure:

General notes

Read this entire procedure before beginning work.

Use Safe Shop Practices At All Times.


1. Turn the main battery disconnect switch to OFF.

2. Open the 3rd baggage bay compartment door. Locate and open the central heat compartment access door ( Figure 1 ).

3. Locate the main heater water control valve in the central heat compartment ( Figure 1 & 2 ).

4. Locate the two-wire harness routing towards the main heater water control valve.

5. On the harness side of the valve connector, cut the white wire ( #36A ) leaving 10 inches of wire on the connector side sufficient to reach the ground bolt on drip tray ( Figure 2 ).

Note: DO NOT cut the wire between the main heater water control valve and the connector.

6. Attach the ring terminal ( part number 19-11-483 ) to the 10 inch length of wire on the connector, by first stripping off 1 / 4 inch of insulation from the wire and then crimping on the ring terminal.

7. Remove the mounting bolt from the drip tray ( Figure 2 ).

8. Place the ring terminal over the bolt. Re-install the drip tray mounting bolt.

9. Tape back the remaining end of the cut white wire attached to the harness.

10. Close the central heat compartment access door and the baggage bay compartment door.

11. Using an Allen key, remove and retain the eight screws that mount the instrument panel to the dash ( Figure 3 ).

12. Pull the top of the instrument panel away from the dash, and rest it against the steering column.

13. Locate the harness routing towards the temperature controller.

14. Cut the white wire ( #36B ) leaving 10 inches of wire on the connector side sufficient to reach the ground stud ( Figure 4 ).

15. Attach the ring terminal ( part number 19-11-34 ) to the 10 inch length of wire on the connector, by first stripping off 1 / 4 inch of insulation from the wire and then crimping on the ring terminal.

16. Install the ring terminal installed over the ground stud, and tighten nut ( Figure 5 ).

17. Tape back the remaining end of the cut white wire attached to the harness.

18. Align the instrument panel with the dash, and re-install the eight screws.

Procedure complete.
